This film had two storylines. The first involves a nonprofit founded in the aftermath of 9/11; their journey from grassroots organizing to launching nationwide service events to commemorate the tragedy. The second involves the brother of one of the cofounders, who was a first responder who died during the towers’ collapse.

It was particularly challenging intercutting the two narratives while establishing a sense thematic flow and chronological order. The film has a third element of verite scenes of present-day service events, which had to be periodically inserted to keep the story dynamic.
